Much of western astrology, including Roman and Greek, is owed to Sumerian astrology preserved by Babylonish Cuneiform records. Other astrological systems are Maya, eastern and Vedic astrology. Astronomy is the observation of celestial behaviour and astrology is its application. The two disciplines have always been treated together until the 17th century's "Age of Reason", when western philosophy disbanded astrology and put more scientific focus on astronomy. The industrialised western world has leaned strictly on astronomy alone, without the inclusion of astrology, for only 350 years of human history. The oldest known archaeoastronomical site, dedicated as a temple to the stars, is Göbekli Tepe in Turkey, dating between c. 9500 and 8000 BCE. It currently stands as the oldest known megalith attesting to modern human intelligence 11,500 years ago to the Last Glacial Period.
